Therapy dogs in Connecticut have helped many people in crisis, and lawmakers are looking at possibly expanding the program.

In Milford, therapy dogs will soon be assigned to every school. Therapy dogs have helped during a number of tough times, including the Sandy Hook shootings and a deadly stabbing at Jonathan Law High School.

The therapy program is the first of its kind in the nation. The bill to expand the program calls for adding more animal training for Department of Children and Families workers and mobilizing more critical response teams to emergencies.

Some critics are questioning if the program is an effective use of tax dollars. The measure has already been approved by the House and will now head to the Senate for approval.
