A class-action lawsuit has been filed against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority over upgrades to the Middletown Road No. 6 train station.
Residents say it's not the spending of more than $21 million to upgrade the station that has them bothered. Instead they say it's the failure to provide enough help for the elderly and disabled.
The station underwent a renovation in 2013 and reopened in 2014. A new staircase, ceilings and flooring were part of the project, however, no elevator access was added.
The group, Disability Rights Advocates, says the MTA ignored a legal mandate to make the train station accessible. The group is calling on the MTA to install elevators.
MTA officials say no such mandate was ignored. They say the upgrade didn't include an elevator because of insufficient space.
