Local lawmakers gathered at a luncheon in Stamford Tuesday to discuss the state deficit.

Legislators say the state and municipalities must work together to tackle the growing deficit. Jack Condlin, President of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce, says he doesn't want to see any new taxes.

"The Legislature could focus too much on taxing wealth and businesses," says Condlin, "that would potentially drive them out of southwestern Connecticut." State Sen. Andrew McDonald says eliminating the deficit is not an easy task. "We are going to look at all aspects of the economy to get ourselves out of this unprecedented hole," he says.

The governor and legislators now have until June 30 to put a two-year budget plan together.
