Limb falls on Trumbull man; ladder impales leg
A Trumbull homeowner is recovering after his leg was impaled when two large tree limbs fell on him as he worked on a ladder Tuesday.
The man was in the process of removing the branches when they fell on him at 66 Fresh Meadow Drive. They reportedly weighed about 2,000 pounds.
The weight caused the ladder to pierce the man's left leg, officials say.
Trauma surgeons from Bridgeport Hospital aided EMS personnel, who feared causing more damage as they removed the ladder. Emergency workers say that impalement injuries come with the risk of severe injury.
Firefighters called a local tree company to help cut him out.
Firefighters told News 12 that he was eventually sent to Bridgeport Hospital, where he underwent a successful surgery.
Officials say the victim was conscious and speaking during the whole ordeal.
