Several Long Island Rail Road trains will be rerouted or canceled for a few months starting Monday.

The changes are due to an Amtrak upgrade project going on at Penn Station.

A total of five morning rush hour trains and six evening rush hour trains will be canceled or rerouted because of infrastructure work.

The work will last through March 8, taking Penn Station's Track 14 out of commission. It will affect eight branches of the LIRR.

The new train schedules will have some riders changing the usual trains they take in order to get to work on time.

Even though the railroad is canceling or rerouting trains during the morning and evening rushes, it is adding a few extra trains in off-peak hours to try to offset the disruption to customers.

LIRR President Phil Eng said, "We appreciate our customers' patience during this time and look forward to sharing the benefits of the more reliable infrastructure Amtrak is putting into place."

Some commuters say the LIRR does the best it can for its customers, but others say problems constantly plague the railroad. They say they hope the two-month disruption will have a limited impact.
