A local organization is continuing give back to area nonprofits throughout the pandemic.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Kennedy Center employees delivered masks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Northeast Fisheries Lab in Milford today.
The nonprofit signed a one-year contact with NOAA to supply personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies to NOAA's 400 locations in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Pacific Islands.
Staff said this will create employment opportunities for people with disabilities and people who have barriers to employment.
They added that the idea came after they struggled to obtain PPE for their frontline workers.
"Our CEO and president at the time, Rick Sebastian, partnered with a women-owned company, and we initially got PPE for ourselves, and for local nonprofits, and then decided this was a business we were going to stay in. So, this was a huge pivot for us back in April, and it's now turned into an amazing partnership with NOAA," said Lynn McCrystal of the Kennedy Center.
So far, The Kennedy Center has delivered about 125,000 units of PPE to 192 NOAA locations.
