On Saturday, one girl will be among a crowd of boys competing at the Nassau County Wrestling Championships at Farmingdale State College.
Lynbrook's Ally Fitzgerald is already a history-maker. Two years ago, she became the first girl on Long Island to win a boys varsity tournament. Last week, she became the first Long Island girl to qualify for a boys county championship.
Fitzgerald has been wrestling against both boys and girls for years.
"A lot of them use tactics to get in my head, like clubbing me hard or staring me down," says Fitzgerald.
Her first match will be against her good friend Josiah Encarnacion.
