Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Thursday that the state is taking steps to prepare for a potential case of Ebola.
He says he has established a unified command team in the event that a case of the virus appears in Connecticut. "The team will be responsible for the coordination of resources and personnel to provide a single point of contact for communications with the public," said Malloy.
The governor says officials now have the authority to quarantine or isolate anyone believed to have been exposed to or infected with the Ebola virus. He says state officials have been in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and that they need to go beyond what the organization recommends in terms of precautionary measures.
Every hospital in the state is being directed to perform a drill within the next week to assure that they know how to handle a potential case.
Department of Public Health Commissioner Jewel Mullen says she is already working with hospitals to make sure they are prepared.
