A man prompted a large police response, ending a four-hour standoff with Fairfield police after he trashed his girlfriend's house and violated a protective order, officials say.
Derek Pflueger, 40, of Stamford, was arrested without incident early Wednesday.
Police say they were called to a home on Kings Highway for a domestic incident Tuesday night around 10:15 p.m.
Police say the woman who reported the incident to 911 was able to make it out of the house, but told officers that her boyfriend was still inside and that he was acting violent.
Pflueger was identified as the man inside the home, and police witnessed him shattering windows inside on the second floor.
Police say Pflueger continued damaging property inside of the home and made several threats to harm himself, which prompted a response of trained police negotiators in addition to a response from the Fairfield Emergency Services Unit.
After four hours of negotiations, Pflueger surrendered.
An investigation determined that Pflueger was in violation of a protective order which was placed upon him by the court to prevent him from being near the victim's home.
It was also determined that he caused extensive damage inside the home, adding additional charges of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 3.
