Man arrested in New Canaan abduction attempt
Police say they arrested a man accused of the attempted abduction of a 14-year-old New Canaan girl.
Police say a 14-year-old girl was walking down a street on her way home from her bus stop Wednesday afternoon, when a man tried to lure her into his car.
They say the girl refused to get in the car, wrote down the driver?s license plate number and called police.
New Canaan police located 34-year-old Paulo Machado, of Stratford, a few hours later. He is charged with disorderly conduct.
Investigators warn parents to keep a watchful eye on their kids.
?It's just safer to walk in pairs or groups, and be more away of your surroundings. For parents, talk to your children now and then, not only when a situation like this comes up,? said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.
Thursday?s arrest in New Canaan was made one day after a 15-year-old girl in Wilton was nearly kidnapped. Police say the details of the incidents were similar, but New Canaan investigators have confirmed the man they arrested is not the same suspect for which Wilton police are searching.
Police are advising Wilton parents to remain vigilant and aware.
