Fairfield police obtained an arrest warrant today for a man seen in surveillance video stuffing expensive bottles of champagne into his pants and stealing them.
Authorities say the theft took place one month ago at the Turnpike Spirit Shop on Black Rock Turnpike. They say surveillance video shows the suspect at the shop stuffing hundreds of dollars' worth of champagne in his pants and then walking out.
Police say the same man stole another bottle of champagne from a nearby Al's Warehouse one week ago.
Turnpike Spirit Shop owner Parag Patel says the suspect got away with two bottles of champagne worth $550. Patel says the suspect returned to the shop last week to try to steal more champagne from him, but an employee called 911.
Police say they know who the suspect is and they hope to serve him with an arrest warrant within a matter of days.
