A new report on the Metro-North Railroad says some maintenance workers in charge of the railroad's fiber-optic network had little or no supervision.

According to the MTA's inspector general, one supervisor told investigators, "Some days I don't have eight hours worth of work to assign," so crews were simply told to "drive up and down" the tracks looking for potential problems.

It's the latest scathing report into Metro-North after a series of derailments.

Metro-North says it is working on an electronic system to log maintenance work.
