The Coast Guard announced that it is limiting the number of times that a rotating bridge along Metro-North will be opened to river traffic.
The Walk Bridge over the Norwalk River was stuck in the open position twice in recent weeks, shutting down service and causing major delays.
Officials say cutting down on the openings will give crews time to make much-needed repairs.
While most support the reduced openings, there is some reservation from businesses that need to transport supplies on barges.
The Devine Brothers in Norwalk will need to use about 80 trucks to carry what one barge can hold, so the company is hopeful for a more long-term solution.
The Coast Guard says the Department of Transportation has contracted engineers to make emergency repairs as soon as possible.
The repairs could take several weeks.
