Metro-North train strikes van on New Canaan line
A train struck a van at a crossing at the Glenbrook Metro-North Station in Stamford Monday, shutting down the commuter railroad's New Canaan branch for about two hours.
Metro-North officials say the collision occurred at 9:11 a.m. at the Crescent Street crossing. They say the van was apparently attempting to cross the track when the gates were down. A witness said the train dragged the van for a few seconds before it spun around and wound up on the other side of the tracks.
The driver was unhurt in the collision. There is no word yet on if he will face any charges for going through the gate.
