Mike Rizzo, a New York City native, joined the News 12 Connecticut team in July 2014 starting as a freelance meteorologist. He regularly filled-in not just in Connecticut, but also at News 12’s sister stations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, New Jersey, and Hudson Valley. In October 2015 he was welcomed as News 12 Connecticut’s Weekend Meteorologist.
Mike graduated from Kean University of New Jersey in May 2014 with a B.S. in Meteorology. In May 2016, he will have completed his M.A. in Communication Studies from the same institution. He has a passion for weather, technology, nature, and art. He values lifelong learning, and he finds joy in spreading knowledge and weather love!
Throughout his time in college, Mike embarked on a two week long storm chase research expedition across the Great Plains of the United States. There is where he saw his first tornado, and he had hands on experience with severe weather which led him to complete research on the topic.
He has interned at News 12 The Bronx & Brooklyn in 2012 and at WCBS-TV in New York City in 2014 prior to his employment with News 12 Connecticut.
Aside from broadcasting the weather, Mike has a deep appreciation for education and serves as a mentor and academic advisor for college students at his alma mater. He soon plans to work on the side as an adjunct professor to help college students seeking careers in broadcast and meteorology.
At News 12 Connecticut, Mike hopes to inspire viewers across southwestern Connecticut by delivering interesting, fun, and informed weather broadcasts.
