The Milford School Board voted unanimously Friday to name a new school superintendent to oversee a school district that has been rocked by recent scandals.Dr. Harvey Polansky agreed to accept the Milford superintendent?s post and vowed to help the scandal-plagued district move forward. Dr. Polansky, former superintendent of Southington Public Schools, told the board he is prepared to give his passion and support to make sure the district?s nearly 8,000 students get the best education possible. Residents say they are hoping Polansky will help the district recover from a series of controversial incidents involving former Milford superintendent Gregory Firn. Firn was ousted last year after he wrote a reference letter in support of Robert Dulin, a youth basketball coach accused of having a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old. Firn was also accused of coaching a team and teaching at a local university while he was on medical leave.Mayor Jim Richetelli says he?s confident Polansky will unite the district and heal its wounds.
