Local officials honored a Black Rock family for their decades of service to the Bridgeport community.
Matt and Marty McCarthy along with their mother, sister and third brother were recognized for their "extraordinary commitment to public service."
The family donated a wheelchair van to a disabled child and volunteered extensively during the pandemic.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal called the family "a model for America" and presented them with a congressional commendation.
"What the McCarthy family has done with their generosity and good deeds is just extraordinary," Blumenthal says. "A great example of giving back to the community. They've made the community their family."
Mayor Joe Ganim says their record of service makes Bridgeport proud.
Matt McCarthy says they are just doing a small part and many other people in the community give as well.
