? Students at a Morrisania school showed off their poetry skills via videoconference to their peers in Scotland.
The Department of Education lends out the equipment and the DreamYard project supplies poetry teachers to Bronx students. Many students say the project helps promote literacy and good school attendance. A government official from Scotland wants to adopt the program in his country. He feels it will help young Scots better express themselves.
Bronx students invited the Scottish students to a poetry slam competition in May. The Scots declined, but say they hope to form a team in time for next January?s event.
