A woman who lost both daughters in separate homicides is being honored by state and local leaders for not only building awareness about the dangers of domestic violence, but also for taking concrete steps to prevent it.
Corrinna Martin's daughter and granddaughter were killed in their Waterbury apartment in August in what police say is a clear-cut case of domestic violence.
Martin's other daughter, 20-year-old Alyssiah Wiley, was also murdered during a separate domestic violence assault in April of 2013.
Martin has met with Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy to push for new federal legislation that would expand an existing law enforcement database to give investigators at every level expanded access to domestic violence records.
She argues that had such a technological resource been available in the past, her daughters and granddaughter might never have been brutally murdered.
