MTA warns of scam behind bogus lost-and-found site
Investigators say they are trying to track down the creators of a scam website that targeted MTA riders who misplaced belongings.
According to investigators, LostPropertyNYC.com charged people who sought to track down items they had lost while riding MTA trains or buses. However, the site was not affiliated with the transit authority.
The MTA says it offers lost-and-found services for free. Riders who lose belongings can fill out a form on the MTA's website to recollect their items from Grand Central Station.
Transit officials say they contacted Google to get the website shut down while they search for the individuals behind the site.
