An employee in the Nassau County Clerk's office has been arrested and accused of altering election ballots.
Jonathan Maldonado allegedly placed altered sample ballots on a sign-in table to help a legislative candidate.
Officials say it happened during last September's primary.
According to officials, on those ballots, there was a hand written message that said “Fill in Oval Here” with an arrow next to the name of the candidate Maldonado campaigned for.
The 36-year-old is now charged with electioneering and faces up to a year in prison.
