The National Weather Service has confirmed that a weak tornado touched down in the Wolcott area in New Haven County Sunday afternoon.
According to a preliminary report by the agency, an EF-0 tornado touched down at around 12:50 p.m. The tornado had an estimated maximum wind speed of 80 to 85 mph, with a path length of 0.62 miles.
The tornado caused tree damage and uprooted trees as it traveled northeast.
A fence was blown down and "large fixed sports equipment" was tossed across a field, the National Weather Service's report said.
