Redding parents and volunteers spent a rainy week helping to build a new playground for an elementary school.
Officials say the old playground at Redding Elementary School, which has been around since the 1980s, needed to be replaced.
Neighbors say it took years of donations to finally get construction on the project up and running.
Teachers in the school told News 12 that they had to close the curtains as students couldn't help but look on from their classrooms.
Boy Scout troops, members of the fire department and parents worked on the new playground for the last three days in the rain to build a new place for students to play.
"It's a small community," one resident said. "There aren't that many people, but everyone is willing to contribute and help out a neighbor."
The work is scheduled to be finished Saturday and children should be able to use the new playground on Monday.
