This year marks the 80th anniversary of Alcoholics Anonymous, according to substance abuse experts who credit the organization with helping millions quit drinking.
Dr. Eric Collins of Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan says AA isn't for everyone, but for some it's a godsend.
Collins shared a few tips on how to identify a drinking problem. People who miss work or drive under the influence should seek help, he says, as should people who experience memory loss.
Collins also said that getting into fights or arguments with family members or strangers is a sign of trouble.
But there isn't a certain amount of drinks per day that define an alcoholic, according to Collins. It's about whether your personal life and health are affected.
However if you do think you have a drinking problem, Collins recommends speaking to your doctor or trying an AA meeting.
