New Canaan is buying five body cameras for its parking officers.
If you park too long in downtown New Canaan, chances are a parking officer will give you a ticket.
First Selectman Robert Malozzi III says some people have actually assaulted parking officers or harassed them over tickets. New Canaan police say they've charged a handful of people for threatening parking officers. In other cases, drivers have accused ticket-writers of trying to assault them.
Malozzi says the cameras will eliminate the "he said-she said," and hopefully force people to be more civil.
New Canaan is the first town in the state to outfit parking officers with body cameras.
The cameras cost just over $3,600.
