Bridgeport was awarded a $30,000 grant from the National Fitness Campaign to build a new fitness court in an attempt to inspire health and wellness for residents. The city's Environmental Task Force contributed over $200,000 to help make the project possible.

There was a fitness challenge between the Fire and Police department recruits Friday.

Ebony Jackson-Shaheed, the director of Health and Social Services for Bridgeport, says this will be a great physical resource to help all residents.

The event had blood pressure screenings, cooking demonstrations and even dance class.

Carol Ortiz is a physical education teacher at Roosevelt school and teaches her students about lifelong fitness every day.

"I was like, this is an amazing resource for our kids," she said.
