People across the Garden State had to find ways to stay cool Monday as temperatures climbed above 90 degrees.
Several schools across the state had early dismissals due to the heat, so there were lots of children and teens out and about trying to find ways to stay occupied and cool off.
Dozens of people waited in a line that snaked around Van Horn Street in Jersey City in order to get into the community pool.
By early afternoon there were so many people packed inside the Johnston Pool that they had regulate occupancy. Dianne Pettiford-Jackson says that she waited a least 90 minutes to get in to the pool.
Pools weren’t the only way that people cooled off.
Many were using the 15 spray grounds that were around Jersey City.
“We thought we'd just come around and run around instead,” says Andrea Maas.
Thousands of New Jersey residents headed down to the Jersey Shore to cool off and get some beach time.
The owner of popular Belmar restaurant Mamalukes says that dozens of people came in for ice cream. Other Jersey Shore businesses also saw an increase in business Monday.
But health officials say that people should limit the amount of time they are outside when conditions get this hot. New Jerseyans should drink plenty of water and stay in the shade when they can.
Beach officials say that they want to remind beachgoers to only swim in the ocean if a certified lifeguard is on duty.
Weather conditions are expected to continue to be warm in New Jersey for the next several days.
