The New Lebanon School held a topping-off ceremony in Greenwich to mark a major milestone in its construction project.

Students and teachers signed the final steel beam of the project before it was installed at the ceremony.

Builders designed the school to work with the surrounding landscape and serve as an extra educational tool.

"It was an idea our office had about bringing environmental education into the school by putting the school right there in the sloped valley with trees all around it, it was part of the woods," says project manager Jesse Saylor. "And so we've brought that through into our design of the interiors as well." 

The new facility is expected to be more sustainable than the old building, and will provide more space for students and teachers.

Officials say construction should be completed in about six months.
