Most Bronx residents are thrilled with the opening of a new indoor mall, but say they could do without the added traffic.
Cars lined up outside the Mall at Bay Plaza in Co-op City following its grand opening Thursday, which had shoppers tackling 780,000-square feet of retail space.
One driver said it took him an hour to get out of the mall and back to his Bronx home.
The Department of Transportation said it did its best to prepare for the traffic influx by making improvements to intersection timing and lane assignments on Bartow and Baychester avenues. The agency says it will continue to monitor the area and address concerns.
The MTA plans to extend weekend service to the shopping mall next year.
