After complaints from community activists, the Norwalk police department says a fight at Calf Pasture Beach categorized as "gang activity" was an overreaction from the on-duty officer.

Roughly 200 teens were at the beach on Memorial Day, allegedly intimidating beachgoers. Norwalk's police chief and several local religious leaders say the situation was blown out of proportion by the one on-duty police officer, who used the words "Crips and Bloods" when calling for backup.

Police say they've communicated with community activisits and they all agree that while there is a gang problem in Norwalk, labeling everyone involved was uncalled for. Patrols will now be increased at the beach.
