Norwalk seniors voiced their displeasure today at a public hearing on plans to close the city's Social Security office. Officials say the office is no longer cost-effective since it has less foot traffic than either the Bridgeport or Stamford locations. However, many subscribers say driving is no longer an option, leaving them with little leverage. According to officials, the plan will not result in a loss of jobs, and that they may have a Social Security employee drop by the Norwalk Senior Center on a monthly basis. The Norwalk facility is one of 14 offices across the nation facing closure to reduce costs.
