NYPD warns commuters after recent thefts on buses
Police have issued a "crime alert" advising Bronx residents to keep a close eye on their personal items when commuting.
The 49th Precinct recently tweeted out that thieves are snatching wallets and phones out of the hands of MTA bus riders by the corner Pelham Parkway and White Plains Road, where there are three bus routes -- Bx39, Bx12 and Bx12 select buses.
The NYPD's Crime Division has several tips when riding on a bus, including wait for the bus on the sidewalk away from the curb, have your money or MetroCard available, sit near the front of the bus, stay awake and aware, and exit with the crowd.
