The Jersey Shore could be battered by high waves and strong winds as a coastal storm takes shape offshore, with another round of beach erosion possible in areas hit a few weeks ago.
Ortley Beach is a town that had to add sand several times already this year. Any kind of strong winds and big waves from the storm will lead to more erosion.
Last February and again in early June, Toms River Township spent tens of thousands of dollars trucking in sand and spreading it on these couple of blocks.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduled to come back next year and touch up the area.  The township engineer says even though it comes with a price tag, in the long run, the cost to maintain this beach is worth it.
“If you take the cost even if the town has to do some work here sand costs $300,000 to $400,000,” says Toms River Township Engineer Robert Chankalian. “What does one house here cost? What is the road we're standing cost? The boardwalk? It's a place that everybody wants to be.”
Chankalian says the area since replenishment has held up. There's been no further damage to the infrastructure in any of the recent storms, even though some of the dunes have been eroded.
