The state Health Department has confirmed that a third hospital in Connecticut is treating patients with Enterovirus D-68, a severe respiratory virus that is affecting children.
Dr. Vicki Smetek, the chairman of pediatrics at Norwalk Hospital, says it spreads the same way as the common cold.
Parents are urged to keep vigilant about washing hands and wiping down surfaces. Smetek also says it is especially important for children with asthma to take their medications.
A spokesman for the state Health Department says they are asking hospitals to keep on top of testing patients for the virus.
