Bridgeport city officials said Monday new parking meters will be installed by the end of the week.
They say the meters will make the parking in the downtown area easier and more convenient.
News 12 is told the parking meters will be turned on Tuesday. They will feature a touch screen and multiple payment options.
Residents will be able to pay with coins, credit cards or through a phone app.
Officials say they have been doing electrical work and other infrastructural changes over the past few months to prepare for the new meters. They are hoping to eventually put up 111 meters for just over 200 parking spaces in the downtown area.
They say the meters will be beneficial not only for residents but also for business owners whose customers occasionally struggle with parking.
The system will also show available parking spaces and will have a grace period of five minutes.
Officials say 24 meters will be working by the end of the week, and they are hoping to make the rest of the meters operational over the coming months.
