A national organization with a strong local connection is once again going the distance to raise money for kids hit hard by the pandemic.
The PaperSeed Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to educating kids, was so impressed with the efforts of a Norwalk man that it is now hoping to piggy-back on what he's accomplished.
Back in May, News 12 followed along with Joe Hoffman who speed-walked from Norwalk's Cranbury section to Calf Pasture Beach and back twice.
He was able to raise $50,000 for PaperSeed. The money went to Filling in the Blanks and the Open Door Shelter to also feed kids struggling during this crisis.
PaperSeed has decided to do a virtual race starting this Saturday through Sept. 27. People can run or walk a 5K, 10K, half marathon or full marathon in their community and then upload their results.
"Anyone can make a donation," said Aliyya Shelley Mattos, of the PaperSeed Foundation. "You can get your company to do donation match and we would be thrilled to have any support that individuals can provide with their feet or their financial resources."
Registration is $25 and all donations go directly to the organizations working on the front lines. For more information, click here.
