The dog days of summer have arrived and people are looking for ways to cool down.

Today's temperatures across Connecticut was about 91 degrees, ten degrees above average for early July. With the humidity, temperatures felt more like 95 degrees.

News 12 was at the splash pad in Beardsley Park where kids of all ages were trying to beat the heat.

"It's the perfect solution, because they go stir crazy in the house, no matter how many activities, video games that they have -- they get on each other's nerves because they are hot and bothered," says Helen Cora, a grandmother of six.

Residents also escaped to the Wonderland of Ice for some summer skating. A volunteer at the rink, Russ Fetcho, says it's the best-kept heat-beating secret in town. "In the wintertime, we will have like 150 to 200 people on the ice on any given Saturday and Sunday, and when it's 95 degrees, you have about 12," says Fetcho.

Temperatures will remain in the low 90s until the end of the week. Heat and humidity will finally break on Sunday, returning temperatures to the low 80s.
