Hundreds have signed an online petition claiming the upkeep of the Milford Cemetery is unacceptable.
The oldest part of the cemetery dates back to the 1600s. Petitioners say some of the headstones have been weathered and the surfaces, the names and dates are gone. They also say the cemetery grounds are often littered with trash.
The 'Save Milford's Cemetery History!' petition says, "Citizens of Milford, CT, this is our history, our founders are buried here. How can we let their memory and resting place be forgotten?"
The superintendent of the Milford Cemetery Association says his crew and budget are too small to keep up with the demands. He is pleading for the community's help in keeping it repaired properly.
