Gunfire broke out at a party late Friday night leading to Bridgeport's 11th homicide of 2019, police say.
The shooting occurred on Horace and York streets. Police say two parties were taking place simultaneously around 11 p.m., when some kind of dispute boiled over, resulting in gunfire.
Police say a 17-year-old male was shot in the chest. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital.
Investigators told News 12 Connecticut the street was filled with witnesses who were at the parties, but nobody is coming forward with information.
Friends say the high school student was a popular teenager with a promising future.
Community activist Curtis Rushing says he just saw the victim about a week ago and the shooting has left him shaken.
"I feel horrible, this is my neighborhood, this is my area, this is East Side," Rushing said. "This is where we all grew up at. This is where we all know each other from and now I got to look at another dead face."
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the slaying to contact police. They are not yet releasing the victim's identity because he is a juvenile.
