Seven teenagers were arrested Wednesday afternoon after stealing an SUV and fleeing from officers, police say.
They say the teen boys were caught after the car they were driving flipped over on Grist Mill Road near the Route 7 Connector.
News 12 is told officers first lost sight of the vehicle in Westport after attempts to stop the suspected stolen vehicle were unsuccessful. Police say the driver turned around as he was being followed and tried to hit two police cruisers.
Shortly after, police in Norwalk located the vehicle but were also unable to stop it. News 12 is told the officers spotted the SUV on the Route 7 Connector but couldn't close in on it because of its high speed.
The vehicle flipped over around 3:45 a.m., officials say.
News 12 is told the suspects in the vehicle did try to escape the scene but were unsuccessful. All of the individuals were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Of the seven teens, three had active juvenile probation warrants, one had an active arrest warrant, and one was reported missing out of New Haven, police say.
News 12 has learned the teens are facing a range of charges from larceny to interfering with a police officer. The driver of the vehicle faces additional charges.
Police say they don't know if this particular incident is related to other recent stolen vehicle incidents in Fairfield County.
Grist Mill Road reopened around 8 a.m. after a police investigation closed several lanes.
