Police say they have located a brother and sister from Brownsville after they were reported missing for more than 24 hours.
According to police, 12-year-old Lala Washington and her brother Andrew Hillard, 9, were found in safe conditions around 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a Starbucks on a bench in midtown Manhattan.
The two were reported to have gone missing around 8 a.m. Wednesday when they did not return to their Amboy Street home. They were last seen at a food program across the street from their home.
The NYPD says they increased patrols and utilized the aviation unit while searching for the children.
The children’s mother says she typically lets them go to the park and areas near their home alone, but they always come back home.
"They always have respect for me, they'll be back and explain to me, 'Mommy I went outside to the park for a little bit,'" Kimberly Washington says. "We looked at every park out here."
Officials say the siblings were taken to the hospital for evaluation before they can return home.
The National Action Network, along with Borough President Eric Adams also helped with the search.
