Police: Death of infant at unlicensed day care probed as homicide
Fairfield police say the death of a 4-month-old boy at an unlicensed day care is now being investigated as a homicide.
The initial investigation in March had concluded that the baby's death was due to sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS. However, the state medical examiner has found high levels of Benadryl in the baby's system.
The boy was from Shelton, but died at a day care facility in Fairfield.
Police say Carol Cardillo has been running an unlicensed day care at her home on Edgewood Road for 11 years.
So far, investigators say no one has been charged in connection to the infant's death.
