Two people died in a head-on crash on Route 44 in Barkhamsted late Friday afternoon, police say.

The road was closed for hours after a landscaping truck collided with a plumbing truck after 4 p.m. Both drivers died, police say.

Police say one passenger was taken to Hartford Hospital.

Authorities did not immediately release the victims' identities.

Chopper 12 arrived at the scene above both mangled vehicles. There was landscaping mulch all over the road, and police say there was a diesel spill related to the accident that has been contained.
