Police: Man killed by hit-and-run driver in Lake Ronkonkoma
Police say a man was killed by a hit-and-run driver overnight in Lake Ronkonkoma.
Antonio Diorio, 16, says a woman came to his door, telling him there was someone lying on the ground by his house. The teen says he then called 911.
Police arrived on scene at Rosevale Avenue and Richmond Boulevard in Lake Ronkonkoma after midnight. They say Christopher Grassia was hit by a car whose driver fled.
Diorio says he's traumatized by the incident. He says he also saw broken glass and paint chips from the car.
Police say Grassia, 46, was hit sometime between 7:20 p.m. Thursday and 12:20 a.m. Friday.
An employee of a nearby gas station says Grassia had been inside the store earlier that evening.
Neighbor Peggy Walsh says cars often go too fast on Rosevale Avenue and that too many crashes happen.
Police say they're looking for a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck with a dented front end.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
