Police: Man stabbed, robbed near Route 1 in Fairfield
A mugger stabbed and robbed a man walking home from the Fairfield Metro-North station early Tuesday morning, police say.
Officials say the 25-year-old victim regularly walked home from the train along Route 1. They say he had his phone in his hand as he passed the Staples Shopping Center, and another man wearing a black hooded jacket and khaki pants approached and demanded the device.
Police say the two men scuffled, and the suspect stabbed the victim in his leg before running off with the phone.
News 12 has been told that the victim flagged down a driver who had just gotten off Interstate 95. That person brought the victim to the Cumberland Farms where they called 911.
Police responded with a K9 unit but failed to track down the attacker.
The victim was treated at a hospital and released.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Fairfield police.
