Norwalk police are investigating a stabbing that sent a man to the hospital over the weekend.
Linda Collins, a resident at the building on Fair Street where the incident happened, woke up to the commotion around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
"I saw a bunch of lights ... police lights ... going through my blinds," she said. "And then all of a sudden we heard somebody running down the hall yelling."
Collins would later learn an argument in one of the resident's apartments turned violent. Police say Abdul Haqq, of Bridgeport, stabbed and slashed the victim multiple times with a kitchen knife. He was at the building visiting a woman he had a relationship with. When another man showed up, police say he and Haqq got into an argument that turned violent.
Witnesses pointed officers to another apartment, which is where police say they found Haqq with a shirt covered in blood.
Haqq is in custody and set to be arraigned in Norwalk Tuesday. He is charged with assault.
Collins, who has lived at the building for the last seven years, called it a sign to find a new place.
"It was really a wake-up call. My daughter was like, 'Oh my gosh mom, you have to move,'" says Collins.
Police say the victim was rushed to Norwalk Hospital with substantial injuries and is expected to recover.
