Police offer tips to boaters after string of accidents
Three separate incidents on the Long Island Sound over the past few days have left 2 people dead and 1 person missing.
As a result, police are reminding the community to be safe on the water. Safety officials say to be aware of weather conditions, including whether there are high winds and how the current is.
One of the accidents involved an inflatable raft in Bridgeport on Sunday. An officer from the Darien Police Marine Unit says they can be safe, but should only be used by experienced boaters.
For tubing, the officer says there needs to be one person over the age of 16 steering the boat and a separate person watching the person tubing.
He also says paddle boarders need to wear a life vest, not just have it on the board.
