Stamford police have released the identities of a suspect and the police officer that shot him in an early morning showdown Saturday.
Police say decorated 20-year veteran Mark Ligi shot 19-year-old Anthony Almeida in the upper torso after Almeida refused to drop a gun he was using to spray a street corner with bullets. Authorities say Almeida is a convicted felon who recently served time for robbery.
Investigators say Almeida is being held on $1 million bond and has been charged with criminal attempt at assault and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, among other charges. Stamford police are asking anyone with additional information to call 203-354-INFO.
