Investigators sifted through the charred rubble of an unfinished New Canaan house Tuesday after it went up in massive flames.
The fire started around 9:30 Monday night. New Canaan firefighters say they had to bring in tankers full of water because there are no hydrants in that part of town. The intense flames charred nearby trees and flying embers nearly sparked a larger fire, according to officials. No one was injured in the fire, but several neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.
Local investigators and the state fire marshal are considering all options, including whether makeshift electrical service or a Halloween prank is to blame.
