A new Quinnipiac University poll out Thursday shows that November's presidential election is shaping up to be a close one.

The poll shows President Barack Obama with 46 percent of the vote.

The leading GOP candidate, Mitt Romney, has 42 percent

The poll has about a 2 percent margin of error.

The numbers also showed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie leading the pack when it comes to potential running mates for Mitt Romney. Quinnipiac University found that 31 percent say Christie would make a good choice.

Twenty-four percent of those polled believe Florida Sen. Marco Rubio would be a good running mate.

And Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan got 23 percent.
